A recent study by HireVue, a company specializing in AI-driven hiring solutions, has revealed a significant gap between how HR professionals and job seekers view the use of artificial intelligence in the hiring process.

The survey, which included 1,000 HR professionals and 3,100 job seekers, found that 73% of HR professionals trust AI to recommend suitable candidates. Nearly half are open to using AI throughout the entire recruitment process.

However, job seekers express much more skepticism. The study found that 80% of job applicants want transparency about a company’s use of AI in hiring, and 75% oppose AI having the final say in hiring decisions.

“There’s a clear disconnect between how HR sees AI and how candidates perceive it,” says Dr. Jane Smith, a labor economist at UCLA.

Concerns about AI bias in hiring are not unfounded. Recent studies have shown instances where AI systems ranked identical resumes differently based on names associated with different genders or ethnicities.

Despite these concerns, AI’s presence in hiring is growing. About a quarter of HR professionals currently use AI for resume screening or candidate assessment. Its main applications are in improving job postings and writing job descriptions.
